Sofrito

Our first ever recipe is posted. YAY! Of course we had to start with my momma’s sofrito recipe. When I envisioned my blog, I pictured my mom on board contributing with her cooking skills. I was actually surprised when my mom was excited! I knew she would support me like mommas do, but I wasn’t’ expecting her to the see the vision. But she did, and here we are!

I’m hoping most of my readers have enjoyed a Puerto Rican dish at some point of their life haha. If you were wondering how we season our food, here is the secret. Sofrito.

Sofrito is the base to all of our seasoning. I throw it in EVERYTHING. The recipe is so simple, you’ll be doing it too!

You should be able to find all the ingredients in one place! Your local supermarket should have everything. If for some reason you can’t find ajices (it might be difficult) just make it without it. No biggie!

Here are some tips from mom –

Use either a processor or blender. Don’t focus on consistency. When you see something you like, stop & store.
Use dollar store – small containers to make the sofrito singles. I usually make one big batch and divide. Once i start cooking, I take one out ahead of time and add it to the pot.

Pack your sofrito singles in a ziploc. Don’t leave them out in the freezer. Sofrito is delicious in beans, rice and anything else you want to add it to. But if you don’t bag them up, your ice will taste like sofrito, and that’s just nasty. Haha.

In the upcoming recipes, we will be adding ‘ Sofrito Single’ in the ingredient list. I will make sure to always link this recipe so you can just click & replenish your sofrito stash.

And to commemorate my gma; who taught us both how to cook, all the recipes will be signed with one of her favorite sayings ‘ barriga llena, corazon contento’

( A full belly and a happy heart.)

This is for her.
