08 Dec Benefits of Celery
You guys know I’m all about the newest trends in wellness. I don’t bandwagon often, but when I do, I gotta put you guys on! New trends get me excited! & celery juice is at the top. So here’s the 411 on Celery Juice & why you should start incorporating 16oz a few times a week.
Like many vegetables; celery is packed with anti-inflammatory properties. It’s shown to have been able to starve pathogens and eradicate inflammation in many autoimmune diseases. There are also two major compounds luteolin & polyacetylene that have been proven to inhibit the effects of specific genes that are responsible for the inflammatory response. To understand how inflammation works, you have to look at the body at the cellular level. When things go wrong, your body sends out a bunch of helpful cells to that area, which is why it is inflamed. Celery juice will facilitate that process by using those compounds to stop those cells from getting out of hand. This is especially helpful with auto-immune diseases because your body attacks its own cells! Celery has shown to stop that process and that alone sold me! I’m about this celery life.
Number two! The gut, after reading more about our GI system and the correlation of GI health and mental health, I am serious about what’s goin on in there! Your gastrointestinal system is packed with tiny neurons! Neurons that work nonstop to keep the body going! Not only does celery juice facilitate a better bowel movement, but it also helps those neurons communicate more effectively. There have also been a few studies that show GI improvement in just a week! Celery juice every morning for a week! That’s an attainable goal.
Next up, detoxification. Our bodies have nutrients and enzymes that control acidity. When it comes to eating poorly; processed food and refined goods throw off our ability to regulate acid. An alkaline state is optimal for cell growth & health. Celery is a natural diuretic, meaning it helps you pee. The more you pee, the more you’ll get rid of all those nasty toxins. It’s a natural acid reducer, so get to drinking and dump that omeprazole (consult your MD first lol)
Bones and celery make a good match. They look similar and both contain the same amount of sodium, seriously 23% to be exact. (i think haha). Anyway, if you have achy breaky bones, drink the juice yall. Celery helps strengthen bones with it’s natural supply of calcium and vitamin k.
Lastly, let’s talk about the liver. Your liver is responsible for detoxification. Whatever you eat or drink goes to the liver & it’s basically stripped of nutrients. Whatever is harmful gets passed on to be excreted, whatever is useful gets metabolized. With that being said, to all my friends that like to drink, alcohol disrupts the liver’s ability to do its work. Now you can’t go out drinking and then drink celery and think your good, haha. But you most certainly can incorporate celery juice to help that liver fight off unnecessary toxins. Your liver is a powerhouse! Regulating hormones, metabolizing carbs, filtering the bloodstream. With all those responsibilities, if you mess with it, you’re going to feel like shit.
Now those are just a few of the benefits of drinking celery juice. With a detoxified bloodstream and liver, you’ll see less bloat, clear skin and have energy without the coffee!
16oz a day will keep the toxins away! Try challenging yourself just a week and see if you can feel the difference. When you are juicing or blending, make sure to strain your juice.
Make sure to drink celery juice on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning at least 30 minutes before you eat.
