6 Vegan Eats Around NYC

This post is way overdue, I did all this research before heading back to NYC to visit new vegan places and it still took me a month to put together a list. haha my bad. Here’s a quick list of some new places I was able to try out. There are so many on my list! Can’t wait to get back. If you have any suggestions, please comment below!

Candle 79

154 East 79th St. New York, NY 10075

When I first started experimenting with plant-based foods, Ray planned a nice date for us in the city for my birthday and took me to Candle 79. This place put us on to the possibilities of veganism. Food so good, I ordered the cookbook once I got home. I don’t know if they have the same menu, but if they do. Order the spaghetti, so simple but so delicious. I had a chocolate shake for dessert and honestly felt like they were playing us, haha. Dress up and make it a date, it’s worth it.

Champs Diner

197 Meserole Street, Brooklyn, NY 11206

Champs Diner was the first place I had scrambled eggs [tofu] It had a little weird texture, but I have grown to love their breakfast line up. I love their french toast and tempeh bacon. We went for breakfast, so I haven’t really explored their lunch/dinner menu. Can’t wait to go back and try more meals. The place is pretty small, and there is always a line outside, make sure to go early. (Especially on the weekends)

By Chloe
171 N 3rd St Brooklyn, NY

There are two locations in NYC, one in the city and one in Brooklyn. We went to the one in Brooklyn, more so because it is much bigger & has more room to sit and enjoy the food. I went with my cousins & we shared a bunch of plates. I am big on Mac & Cheese, I have yet to find a vegan alternative that I love, so the Mac was ok. However, the pesto pasta was delicious! Also tried their kale caesar salad! First time having shataki bacon, omg sooo good! I think they use liquid smoke to season it, either way, it was delicious. My cousin enjoyed a CBD infused drink, which she devoured. So many great options, I will definitely visit again and try a burger.

Urban Food Kitchen
41 Carmine St New York, NY

I had the pleasure of meeting a great friend of mine here on my last visit. The place is equipped with seating, a bar, and a small stage downstairs. The night we had dinner we enjoyed our food with music from a live DJ, she was killing it with the 90’s jams. I would recommend their chicken and waffles, I had never had the dish before & it seemed to be their specialty given all the great reviews. So bomb! We also shared fried okra (my fav), Mac & Cheese (which wasn’t my favorite, very herby & lacking in seasoning) and chili fries, which was also very delicious! We finished up with a brown & coconut ice cream. So yummy!!

Modern Love
317 Union Ave Brooklyn, NY

Let me tell you about Modern Love, this spot has definitely earned top 5 in Brooklyn. I took two of my friends who are meat eaters and surprisingly were open to check out a plant-based spot with me. Mostly because I was visiting and they know they don’t have to do it often haha. The buffalo cauliflower was so good! Seriously, best I’ve had. We also enjoyed their Mac & Cheese, which was also delicious and split a burger. Since moving to California, nothing compares to the impossible burger at Crossroads, but this one was ok, to soft for me. The housemate lime ginger ale was spectacular! I’ve never had flavored ginger ale! Lastly, we enjoyed their brownie for dessert, and that lasted about 2 seconds on our table haha.

Red Bamboo
140 W4 St New York, NY

Saving the best for last. This quaint restaurant in the middle of W4th area is a treasure chest. I stumbled upon this place a few years ago & they do not disappoint. This a good spot to hit after shopping and site seeing in Soho. My absolute favorite is the roti! Try the buffalo wings ( on a stick to get the full experience ) pineapple seafood platter and the chickn parm. The servings are big enough to share so grab a few plates and enjoy!
